The meaning of Easter

Pauline Matanda

“FOR we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God” — Romans 6: 9-10.

As we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us reflect on the profound significance of this momentous occasion.

It is through His death and resurrection that we find hope, renewal and the promise of eternal life.

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ represent the very core of our faith. It is a time of profound reflection, gratitude and celebration.

The significance of Easter lies in the fact that through Christ’s sacrifice, we are redeemed and offered the gift of eternal life. His resurrection signifies victory over sin and death. It is through this victory that we are able to face tomorrow with unwavering faith and hope.

The Easter story is a powerful reminder of God’s love for us.

It is a reminder that even in the face of darkness and despair, there is always the promise of new life and a fresh beginning.

The empty tomb serves as a symbol of hope and redemption, reminding us that no matter how dire our circumstances may seem, there is always the possibility of resurrection and renewal.

Celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is a time of great joy and thanksgiving.

It is a time to reflect on the incredible sacrifice that was made for our sake and to recommit ourselves to living lives that honour and glorify God. Through Christ’s resurrection, we are given the assurance that we are not alone in our struggles and that God’s love and grace is ever-present, guiding us through every trial and triumph.

As we celebrate Easter, let us remember that because He lives, we can face tomorrow with confidence and assurance.

Let us carry the message of hope and redemption with us, sharing the good news of Christ’s resurrection with all those we encounter. May this Easter be a time of spiritual renewal and a deepening of our faith as we rejoice in the triumph of our Lord over death.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.

The Word

“YOU are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” — Galatians 3: 26-27

What are you wearing today? I hope you are clothed with Christ. Anything else is simply out of style by Heaven’s standards, no matter whose designer fashions you may be wearing. You can be clothed with Christ by surrendering your life to Jesus as your Saviour through faith (Romans 13: 14), believing that he is God’s Son who died for you, and trusting in God’s power that raised Him from death to give you life (1 Corinthians 15: 1-7; Colossians 2: 12; 3: 1-4).

Confess Christ as your Lord and Saviour, trust Him for your salvation (Romans 10:9-13) as you share with him in his death, burial and resurrection through baptism (Romans 6: 3-14; Acts 22: 16).

He promises to send his Spirit to live within you and to forgive you of all your sins as He gives you a new birth into his family (Titus 3:3-7).

You will be God’s child and have a home waiting for you in Heaven. For those of us who are Christians, these thoughts are a reminder of what God has done for us. If you are not a follower of Christ, the world does not have to be a cold and lonely place; the Lord Jesus can be with you everywhere you go if you respond to Him in faith. — Wires
