A teen took his mobile phone to a man to get it fixed.

But, when he went to fetch it, the man said the phone was somewhere else.

So they walked together to fetch the Samsung J1 cellphone.

However, the man pulled out a gun and shot at the 16-year-old, who tried to block the bullets with his hands.

“The next thing I was on the ground. I quickly stood up and ran back home without looking back.

“I really did not know what I was doing, but I tried to protect my body with my bare hands to block the bullets from penetrating my body,” he said.

The first bullet hit the young man on the palm and came out on the other side, while the second one hit his forearm.

His angry mother, Elsie Thibatsane (41) from Odi View in Tshwane, told Daily Sun her son was shot at close range on October 15.

She said they were shocked to hear that the man wanted to kill her son.

“My son was admitted at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital and doctors said the injuries were bad. My son is in severe pain.

“I suspect the man sold my son’s cellphone because we never recovered it. I suspect he wanted to kill my son and dump him in the nearby bush. Luckily he managed to run for his life,” said Elsie.

The mother of three said they didn’t know why the man wanted to kill her innocent child.

“I want this man to explain to us why he shot my son. I will not rest until I get justice for my son. My son is traumatised and needs counselling. I don’t think he will forget such a horrible night easily,” she said.

Community leader, Agnes Lengwati (64), said: “We have to push this case and make sure this man gets arrested and gets a heavy sentence. He is not needed in the community. He must rot in jail.”

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said: “A case of attempted murder was opened. The suspect is at large and police are looking for him.”

Faking madness to collect used sanitary pads, diapers

There have been several reports about sanitary pads and diapers being used for ritual purposes.

A young man pretending to have lost his sanity has been caught picking used sanitary pads and baby diapers disposed at a refuse dumpsite. A video on Instagram captured the man looking unkempt from head to toe like a truly mentally challenged person who has not taken his shower for several months.

The fake mad man was seen with a black polythene bag containing used sanitary pads and diapers he had gathered using his “smart” modus operandi.

According to reports, the man was said to have disguised himself as a mad man so he could be able to steal the diapers and pads without been recognised or seen by people who knew him around that area. But luck eluded him as a woman who allegedly knew him raised alarm, which drew the attention of people around to the scene.

Bogus lawyer arrested

A 30-year-old Durban woman who allegedly pretended to be an attorney has been charged for fraud.

Police said the accused, Nomthandazo Shezi, appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in police custody.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the 49-year-old victim alleged that on October 10 he went to Ntuzuma Civil Court to seek legal advice about a site he intended to buy when a woman who pretended to be a lawyer approached him.

“He further alleged that the suspect advised him to pay a deposit, as she would facilitate the sale of land and the balance was to be paid into a trust fund account.

“The victim said he became suspicious when the promises did not materialise and the woman could not be reached.”

A case of fraud was opened at the KwaMashu police station for investigation.

“An intensive investigation led to arrest of the suspect at her home in KwaMashu.”

Mbele said since then another victim has also came forward to report that the woman defrauded her using the same modus operandi.

Shezi was remanded in custody until November 15 for further investigations.

Soldier beats up nurses

A military man went berserk at the hospital where he took his pregnant wife for delivery and beat up two nurses, leaving one of them with a broken leg.

The incident reportedly occurred on October 22 at Okelele Primary Health Centre in Nigeria’s Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

Reports say an altercation erupted after the nurses who had admitted the soldier’s wife asked him to buy delivery packs for the delivery process.

AfroGazette quoted a source as saying: “Instead of looking for the delivery packs, the soldier rejected the demand, arguing that the state government has provided such items for pregnant women that might have come for their delivery at the hospital.

“But the nurse told the soldier that he misconstrued the information, therefore, he needed to provide the delivery packs for his wife to assist her to make use of the delivery packs for his wife’s delivery at the labour room. But, the statement got the soldier angry and he beat the nurse to the extent that one of her legs was broken.”

The Kwara State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Alhaji Shehu Aminu, confirmed the assault on the two nurses.

“The soldier became infuriated and headed to the doctor’s office and started beating the two nurses he met there. The soldier slapped one of the nurses who ran for her dear life while the other sustained an ankle injury,” Alhaji Shehu Aminu said.

Meanwhile, the said soldier has since been arrested and detained by the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, Kwara State.
