ASPIRING comedienne-cum-musician Tahtah is raring to showcase her talents at the StarBrite Season 10 national finals that will be held on September 23 in the capital.

Born Tadiwa Chamboko, the Afro-fusion singer, who is also a comedienne, is the only female artist who is representing Harare Province in the eagerly awaited finals.

Artists from the country’s 10 provinces will take to the stage as they try to impress the judges.

StarBrite is meant to identify and groom upcoming artists.

Tahtah said the journey has not been easy.

“It was very tough. I, however, taught myself that challenges are part of everyday life and that with God nothing is impossible. After coming through, I am now looking forward to performing to the best of my ability,” Tahtah said.

Her hit song “Zvedi” has won the hearts of many and is currently doing well.

The song writing skills, as well as the script formulation were mastered during the course of the competition.

Barney Mpariwa, the founder and executive director StarBrite, said the show was more than just a talent-identification programme.

“It is more of an academy where aspiring artists are groomed to face the future challenges that they might come across in the industry,” Mpariwa said.

Contestants are given assignments on script writing and film production, among other tasks.

The current edition, which started towards the end of last year, drew more than 5 000 participants from across the country.

Unlike in the past, recent StarBrite auditions were held through various social media platforms due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Since its inception in the 1990s, the show has produced big names such as Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, Willom Tight, Kireni Zulu, Mateo, Tendai Chidarikire, Witness Matema and Tony Friday, among others.
