THE Sunday Mail Senior Features Reporter, Tendai Chara, last week won the Best Energy Innovation Story Award at the Hivos/Misa Zimbabwe 2020 Renewable Energy Media Awards that were held in the capital.
The awards were hosted by the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) in partnership with Hivos, a Non-Governmental Organisation that tackles issues to do with the environment and renewable energy, among others.
Chara’s winning entry was a feature article that highlighted how the introduction of a community solar project has transformed the lives of previously marginalised communities in a remote rural post in Matabeleland South.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Chara thanked the Editor of The Sunday Mail, Victoria Ruzvidzo, for appreciating and treating renewable energy issues with the importance they deserve.
“Some editors do not take issues to do with renewable energy, climate change and the environment seriously and hence articles to do with these subjects are often ignored.
“This is, however, not the case at my workplace where such often ignored issues are given prominence as any other issues,” Chara said.
“Where it not for such appreciation, winning this award would have remained a dream.”
