The Sunday Mail

Heatwaves come and go but one thing keeps sizzling – the style scene that is fronted by celebrities and fashion artistes.
Thus the Style Corner has this week decided to do a round up, identifying bubbling fashion items and individuals that have kept the local fashion industry pulsating for the right or wrong reasons.

Some of the fashion items and individuals that have kept the fashion industry pulsating

Some of the fashion items and individuals that have kept the fashion industry pulsating

1. Louise Pump by Shoko Shoes
Shoe designer brand, Shoko Bespoke shoes, last week launched their first high heel shoe design – the Louise Pump. The new foot gear, which is the brains of influential fashion creative, Priscilla Chigariro-Gessen promises to take the markets by storm judging from the kudos that it has been receiving so far. The exquisite Louise Pump adds to the company’s various other genuine leather and handmade designs which have also been spotted on the runway.
2. Not for you Ammara
I could not help but notice Ammara Brown’s love for dark gothic lipstick as part of her stunning outfits. The singing sensation, who is daughter to the late legend Andy Brown is indeed a genuine fashion enthusiast. Her choice of fabric and jewellery sums it all up.
Ammara has a good selection of outfits for both on and off stage. However, she should improve on her selection of make-up. While dark lipsticks are the in-thing, it certainly does not suit her baby face features.
3. Stunner’s teenager style a “NO”
Popular hip-hop artiste, Stunner, seems to have undying love for his glasses known as “stunners”. He is still wearing them religiously and was spotted with them while performing at a school function recently. While Stunner has the right to dress as he wishes, I suggest that he leaves those particular glasses for teenagers. He is now way past that age range and should look for glasses that suit his current age bracket. Apart from this anomaly, everything else about the hip-hop star is tip top.
4. Zim designer at Zambia Fashion Week
It’s interesting to note that local designers continue to make themselves visible on the regional and international platforms. Last week, a Zimbabwean designer for House of Alpha Rose, Yvonne Ndawana gave a good account of herself showcasing her collection at Zambia Fashion Week. The event took place in Zambia’s capital, Lusaka and its runway attracted African fashion gurus including South Africa’s David Tlale. Tlale was the guest designer.
5. Building a sustainable fashion brand
For those with an interest in fashion and building a brand in Zimbabwe, there is a seminar to look forward to. The seminar is being organised by a fashion entrepreneur, Mellisa Mazingi through her online fashion store, Zedlabel and will focus on ways to build a sustainable fashion brand. It will be held next month on November 5. More details pertaining to this event can be obtained from the organisers’ social media platforms.
6. The venture
One plus size model Rutendo Denise Mutsamwirwa is on a mission to promote African designs. She together with a Tanzanian photographer are taking the esteemed African attires to the world. Last week, she featured award winning Zimbabwean designer Thembani Mubochwa, based in South Africa in one of her showcases. Thembani is known in the fashion business for his exquisite garments.
