STYLE CORNER: Deadly allure of the jumpsuit JUMPSUIT...effortless chic wardrobe item with an air of elegance is all the rage at the moment.

The Sunday Mail

“IF the love of fashion is a crime, then I am guilty as charged,” many a fashion enthusiast are fond of saying.
Unfortunately for a model in Zimbabwe, a Black Opal pageant runner-up, this love of fashion has caused her real legal headaches.
The model is accused of shoplifting a jumpsuit from an Edgars store. The case is before a court of law and therefore, not much can be said about it here. However, what is clear is that jumpsuits have caused quite a stir in the fashion industry not just in Zimbabwe but all over the world.
The fashion piece has a deadly allure among Zimbabwean women, and who can blame them when the jumpsuits look so gorgeous on celebrities and fashion models. To the fashionistas, a jumpsuit is a well-known outfit, but to many who have been following this court case I bet they wonder what is so important about this piece of clothing.
A jumpsuit is a one-piece suit that has a long trousers or slacks and has a top attached. When the bottom has shorts it is a play-suit.

Simply put, a jumpsuit is a grown up version of a baby romper, remember those that you wore as baby. Some have gone further to say a jumpsuit is a glorified pair of overalls.
So I decided to find out from jumpsuit fanatics what they think about this fashion trend.
Fashion blogger Sharron Mungazi said: “I love jumpsuits, the loosely fitting ones especially for summer are comfortable. The only problem is when I have to use the loo.”
Mike Shoko agrees with Sharron’s sentiments on going to the bathroom in a jumpsuit stating; “Taking off the whole thing just to visit the bathroom . . . there is the problem.”
No matter the difficulty there is in going to the bathroom in this popular one piece suit and even finding one that complements a woman’s body shape, women love it.
Stylist Toscie Kamusikiri loves the trend because of its versatility but finds them quite pricey: “Jumpsuits, although, expensive to buy in Zimbabwe, are chic and work for a smart casual event and with the right print work for a date.”
Susie, a professional woman, says jumpsuits when done well are perfect.
“A jumpsuit has a way of bringing class,” says Susie.
It is also very risky for people to follow a trend and execute it wrongly. Sometimes a jumpsuit is not flattering in its design for the wearer of the piece.
Pam Tenda a Johannesburg-based banker said: “Jumpsuit wearers ndapota, please say no to the camel-toe. Seeing the shape of one’s groin is embarrassingly a fashion no-no.”
Finally for a jumpsuit wearer the tips on pulling off the trend is this; always try the jumpsuit before you purchase it and check if you can move around in it well. After trying it on make sure the fabric does not gather on the groin area or in between the bums, this is to make it look classy. Hate it or love it, the jumpsuit is currently the hottest item on the fashion streets.
