ZIMBABWE Soccer Coaches Association chairperson and director of BN Academy Bheki Nyoni fears junior talent development efforts being made by the country’s academies will be futile if the top flight league coaches continue recycling old players.

“We have a number of academies in the country doing a lot of work developing these youngsters, but I am afraid all their efforts will be useless if the players coming out of those institutions are not absorbed into the mainstream game.

“We have produced a number of players, but they cannot make it into the Premiership teams because year in year out we have coaches recycling old players. This is detrimental to our developmental efforts,” said Nyoni, whose academy is renowned for producing Kaizer Chiefs player Mathew Rusike.

Hundreds of budding footballers are attending the BN Academy soccer coaching clinics that are being conducted by one of the country’s finest junior coaches Clayton Munemo at the Belgravia Sports club in the capital.

Former Warriors linkman Gift “Guava” Kamuriwo, former Caps United hard-tackling player Steve Chikodzi and Antony Vheriwa, who had a stint with the now defunct Sporting Lions during his playing career, are also part of the coaching staff.

The BN Academy coaching clinic will close with an invitational Under 14 County Bolts and Fasteners Cup on Friday.

Teams participating in this tournament are BN Academy, Bright Star, Sunrise, Catholic, Pima Academy, Banket Juniors, Revival Academy and Friendly Academy.
