Local academies in the Under-21 Challenge Football League continue with their efforts in developing the next generation of competitive players.

The academies staged the CFL Cup at Zifa Village.

Eagles Academy prevailed over Cranborne in the final.

Best goalkeeper Lloyd Mapiye, best defender Nigel Kupara , best midfielder Chief Nderere and best forward Albert Nyamutsaka were awarded for outstanding perfomances.  The top goal scorer gong was scooped by 17-year-old Wesley Murozvi from Legends Football Academy. Murozvi scored five goals in six matches.

The tournament attracted scouts from South Africa and Murozvi has since been invited for trials in Cape Town, South Africa later this month.

Nine more boys from the CFL league have also been invited for trials at local Premiership clubs.

Meanwhile, there was more action in the league as Eagles and Cranborne featured in an enthralling 3-3 draw at Hellenic Sports Club yesterday.

On 17 minutes, Maxwell Makumike opened the scoring for Eagles from the penalty spot before the inform Rashidi Samanyika levelled for Cranborne after 31 minutes.  Makumike then completed his hat-trick in the 35th and 68th minutes but Cranborne responded with two of their own goals in the 54th and 81st minutes through Junior Chekwa and Shawn Chimuka.

In the second match, leaders Legends Football Academy beat DC Academy 3-1 through goals from Tafadzwa Nkomo, Blessing Kagudu and Murozvi.

DC Academy found their consolation goal through Kelvin Makunde in the 63rd minute. These developments come as Zimbabweans are still recovering from the disappointment of the Warriors Nations Cup show.

The Warriors hogged the limelight for the better part of June as they featured in the Nations Cup in Cairo. However, they finished bottom in the Group A that featured hosts Egypt, Uganda and DRC.
