Chitungwiza Town Council yesterday reopened St Mary’s Clinic, which was temporarily closed last month after 30 staff members tested positive for Covid-19.
Acting town clerk Dr Tonderai Kasu said the clinic was now offering full range of services.
“After a rigorous contact tracing and testing exercise, the number of our frontline health workers who tested positive spiralled to 30,” said Dr Kasu.
“They all went into isolation, and now we have only five active cases after the rest recovered.
“We are still short-staffed, but since the majority of those that were affected have been cleared to return to work, we were able to resume operations.”
Council, he said, will continue providing the best service to the community while prioritising human life.
As at Friday last week, Chitungwiza had 102 active cases of the severe respiratory disease, with two new cases being reported on the day.
