TENNIS ZIMBABWE president Regis Bhunu remains confident his association will be able to raise the $31 000 needed to fufill next month’s Davis Cup tie away to Finland.

Zimbabwe are set to play Finland in a Euro/Africa Group II tie in Kittilia from March 4-6.

“We are still engaging our sponsors and hopefully they will be able to release the money this week,” he said.

“As you might be aware NetOne has always been our sponsor and we are hoping the relationship continues as we help tennis to grow in this country

“We will only be able to announce our itinerary for the tie after getting the money. Tentatively we are planning to have a camp in Finland or any country close to them so that we give the boys ample time to prepare.”

The Zimbabwe team comprises Takanyi Garanganga, Mark Fynn and the Lock brothers Benjamin and Courtney.

Bhunu believes the team will be able to hold its own away from home.

“Looking at their players’ profiles they are not scary, I believe we have a good chance against them,” said Bhunu of the Finnish who are ranked 10 places above 45th placed Zimbabwe.

“We would want to move forward and qualify into the Euro/Africa Group 1. If we lose it means we will have to play another team to defend our position.

“That challenge should be enough motivation for our players. They have been doing well and we expect them to carry that form to Finland and do the nation proud.”
