Solidarity ahead of key holiday

Messages of solidarity have started pouring in ahead of the 2017 Heroes and Defence Forces days.

The messages are directed to President Mugabe in particular and Zimbabwe in general.

People’s Friendship University of Russia rector, Vladimir Filippov, said: “In these significant days together with the national heroes of the past who struggled for the independence of Zimbabwe, we will celebrate the heroes of the present generation who restore Zimbabwe nowadays.

“We also should mark the great services of the armed forces of Zimbabwe who performed important achievements both at the national and international levels, which support peace, public tranquillity and stable conditions for the State social and economic development.

“In these remarkable days, we mention with pleasure that your active participation in RUDN life meet the interests of both Zimbabwe and Russia. Our country came out for strengthening of the friendly relations between peoples of both States in the interests of peace and co-operation.

“We wish you good health and further success in development of the Russian-Zimbabwean relations in the humanities sphere.”

Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy chairperson Mr Vova Chikanda said, “The Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy wishes to express its sincere appreciation for the level of service you have devoted as the Commander-In-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and for your resolute leadership as we celebrate the Heroes and Defence Forces days.

“We have many brave men and women of this country who have paid the ultimate prize of bringing independence to the country. We are celebrating as a proud country, 37 years of defence excellence since independence. We wish to express our gratitude, our admiration and our support to the men and women who have answered the noble call of service.”
