Schools should celebrate women

The Sunday Mail

AS a young learner, I did not quite know what International Women’s Day is all about.

However, that changed this year, as we commemorated the day at school.

We finally understood what exactly is celebrated on the day.

For the benefit of other learners, the day is meant to honour women from all walks of life, and promote equal rights.

The day is marked every year, on March 8.

The commemorations date back to 1911, when many women were fighting for the right to vote.

The United Nations first marked the day in 1975.

It was, indeed, interesting to learn  about the history of International Women’s Day

We decorated our classrooms with inspiring posters and other items related to the event.

Some of the posters on display featured prominent and inspiring women from different disciplines such as science, politics and aviation. Some of the banners had facts about women.

We value and appreciate all women from across the globe.

Everyone should attach importance to this important occasion. I wish more schools could celebrate this amazing day by donating to women’s organisations.
