A SPANISH based organisation has tasked local soccer academy, SC 11, with identifying some rough diamonds they can polish before selling to European clubs.
In a letter dated 16 October, 2015; Sports & Events Costa Daurada, through their chief executive Altaïr De Villasante, announced that SC 11’s operations director Denford Mutashu will represent their interests in Africa save for Egypt and Nigeria.
“Sports & Events Costa Daurada is declaring Denford Mutashu as strategic partner of cooperation in football industry in all Africa (except Egypt and Nigeria).
“Sports & Events Costa Daurada is authorizing Denford Mutashu, to represent the company towards Zimbabwe, Africa (except Egypt and Nigeria), agencies and organizations.
“Sports & Events Costa Daurada is itself the only and exclusive partner for Denford Mutashu in Zimbabwe until 30/10/2016. All signed contracts in football business of Denford Mutashu are also in the name of Sports & Events Costa Daurada and with their full support, after being supervised and signed by the CEO of Sports & Events Costa Daurada,” reads the letter from Villacante.
On their website (www.sportsandeventscostadaurada.com), the Spanish agents pride themselves as “an expert company offering world-class sport programs with the best clubs of Spain and Europe.”
While expressing delight at the Spanish affair, Mutashu refused to give much details away, arguing that he is still consulting “relevant stakeholders.”
“It’s a great development for Zimbabwe at large. This thing cannot be a Mutashu baby or a SC 11 baby alone hence there is need to consult with relevant organisations such as Zifa and other academies as well,” he said.
“Before those consultations, I cannot get into the nitty-gritties of this partnership suffice to say there is a great hunger for local talent in Europe because of the exploits of such players as Costa Nhamoinesu, Knowledge Musona and Marvelous Nakamba.
“When these Europeans see Costa playing well in the Europa League for Sparta Praha, they ask themselves if there are more players of his calibre in his country of origin and as Zimbabweans we need to tell them ‘yes there are lots of quality players and we are ready to work with you in one united voice.”
