Preparations for the temporary closure on Sunday of some roads leading to the Mbudzi traffic circle – the construction site of a multi-million-dollar traffic interchange – are advanced.
Briefing journalists during a tour of the site on Wednesday, Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister Mike Madiro said the interchange will reduce traffic congestion upon completion.
“The Mbudzi roundabout is characterised by high traffic volumes, which result in congestion and schedule delays,” he said.
“Therefore, the roundabout will be closed on September 18, 2022 to pave way for a new traffic interchange as the construction of detours has been completed and most of the alternative roads are already tarred.
“Turnaround and congestion will be reduced once the construction of this interchange is completed.”
Government, he said, appreciates the inconvenience closure of the roundabout will cause.
Some portions of the Harare-Masvingo and Chitungwiza-High Glen roads will be temporarily closed for 18 months to pave way for major works.
