THE Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Zimbabwe last week held a film screening session at the Ster-Kinekor Cinema in Borrowdale.

The screenings are part of the Republic of Korea’s campaign to host the 2030 World Expo set for Busan City in South Korea.

Two films “Assassination” and “Nameless Gangster” were screened at the event.

At the Korean Box Office, both “Assassination” and “Nameless Gangster” drew millions of viewers each in 2012 and 2015, respectively.

“Assassination” is an action movie starring award-winning actor and filmmaker Lee Jung-Jae.

Considered one of the most successful actors in South Korea, Lee has received various accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

He also won the Critics’ Choice Television Award and six Baeksang Arts Awards. He was nominated for Golden Globe and Gotham awards.

The chief assistant at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jinho, said the Korean entertainment industry had created a new paradigm for cultural export.

“Our movies and drama series have been well-received in Zimbabwe. As a result, we are looking forward to making sure the locals learn more about our culture,” he said.
