THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association has set up an ad hoc referees’ committee tasked with establishing and maintaining standards as well as match official accreditation and grading.
The committee, to be headed by Leonard Gaize, is also expected to develop curricula for referees’ courses, working closely with the ZVA technical director.

Other members of the committee are Elliot Mpariwa, Spencer Chitate, Lawrence Macharaga, Bekezela Ndlovu and Brian Manuel.
ZVA vice-president in charge of technical development Enias Kondo disclosed that they expect a lot from the newly-established committee.
“The experience of Gaize will help the association lift the standards of refereeing in Zimbabwe,” he said.

“Brian Manuel is another person in the committee who has seen it all in the region and his knowledge and experience will come in handy.
“We have started with an ad hoc committee to help us set up proper structures for a fully constituted commission and hopefully by the start of 2015 that committee will be in place.”

The new ad hoc committee chairman Gaize lauded ZVA for taking the positive step.
“It was long overdue, but nevertheless I want to thank the association for such a noble development which is aimed at improving our refereeing standards.

“Our committee will start with grading the referees and all the appointments for referees, starting from primary school up to national level, will now be done by us,” he said.
