Ramsar Convention secretary to visit Zimbabwe in preparation for next year’s COP 15 Dr Musonda Mumba

The Secretary General of the Ramsar Convention, Dr Musonda Mumba, will visit Zimbabwe this Saturday to prepare for the 2025 COP 15 conference on wetlands scheduled to be held in the country next year.

Dr Mumba will be in Zimbabwe from March 2 to 5 and will tour different Ramsar sites in Harare.

According to a press statement released by the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), Dr Mumba confirmed that she will visit Zimbabwe this Saturday in connection with the preparations of an upcoming conference on the utilisation of wetlands.

“Ramsar Convention will be visiting Zimbabwe, in preparation for the hosting of COP 15 on Wetlands in 2025 in Victoria Falls,” EMA, said.

“The Secretary General will visit some of the notable Ramsar sites in Harare and sign the hosting agreement for COP 15.”

Dr Mumba will tour some parts of the country whilst accompanied by the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development and EMA.

“She will pay a Visit to Cleveland Dam (Urban Wetland Management and Wise use- recreational) and then break for Lunch at Lake Chivero and during the afternoon session she will visit Lake Chivero (Protected Area Management),” reads part of the statement.

The Ramsar Convention is an intergovernmental treaty that provides the framework for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources.
