THE Premier Soccer League opens its offices tomorrow with the match fixing allegations levelled against Herentals at the end of last season on high priority.

Herentals appeared before the PSL disciplinary committee in December facing charges of alleged match manipulation.

This was raised after their 3-0 win over Black Rhinos on October 19, 2019.

The Students also have to clear themselves from the match fixing allegations levelled against them by Bulawayo Chiefs.

While Herentals beat Chiefs 1-0 at Luveve on December 14 last year, the latter claimed that there had been some underhand dealings prior to the match.

lt is alleged that some Herentals officials tried to bribe Chiefs coach Thulani Sibanda and some players.

Premier Soccer League chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele confirmed that the cases will be dealt with this week.

Although Black Rhinos manager Gift Kamuriwo confirmed that he received money from a Herentals official, cases involving match manipulation are usually difficult to prove due to lack of evidence.
It might therefore be difficult for the PSL disciplinary committee to prove the match fixing allegations in the Herentals versus Chiefs game.

Several years back, Zifa’s much publicized Asiagate scandal coughed out thousands of dollars as the football mother body sought to nail those who were being accused of being involved in selling the Warriors friendly matches played in Asia between 2007 and 2009.

A number of players, officials and players were banned from the game.

However, the bans were eventually lifted after Zifa failed to prove the match fixing allegations to Fifa.

Last season, Herentals survived relegation as Mushowani Stars, Hwange, TelOne and Chapungu dropped into the lower league.
