In support of Childhood Cancer day, leading supermarket chain, TM Pick n Pay, has launched the “Orange for Hope” campaign in partnership with KidzCan, to support and raise awareness of children’s cancer.

The retailer will this month donate all proceeds from the purchase of orange cupcakes from across its 54 branches countrywide.

The money will go towards aiding KidzCan support children diagnosed with cancer.

“We received overwhelming support from our customers in 2021 in this same initiative and we were able to sell over 5 000 cupcakes, raising $100 000 for KidzCan,” said TM PicknPay marketing manager Mrs Paida Mhazo.

“With the cost of chemotherapy, medication, tests and various other essential cancer-related interventions costing inordinate amounts of money, we hope our contribution will aid, in some way, the lightening of the burden.

“As a brand, one of our pillars is the passion of knowing that giving back to the community is the foundation that holds the future of the communities in which we operate, and the lifeblood of those communities is the children.”

International Cancer month is commemorated in February annually, while the International Childhood Cancer Day is commemorated on February 15.

The campaign is geared to create awareness and generate support for children and teenagers living with cancer.

It also seeks to provide avenues of support to families caring for cancer patients and celebrate survivors who won their battle against childhood cancer.

“Our customers’ support goes a long way and we would like to thank them for the continued support.

“Through purchasing cupcakes throughout the month, together, we will give hope to a child that deserves it.”

KidzCan is an organisation that helps children and families affected by cancer throughout Zimbabwe.

The organisation provides different services including clinical care, chemotherapy, drugs and case management.

It operates at several hospitals in Zimbabwe including Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, Sekuru Kaguvi Eye Hospital, Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital in Harare and Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo.
