OVER 1300 participants are expected to grace this years’ 42-km Old Mutual Harare Marathon slated for this Sunday in Groombridge.

This year prize money has been pegged at $2000 for both the men and women’s category with the first and second runners-up expected to walk away with $1500 and $1000 respectively.

The winners of the race, in the men and women’s categories, will each walk away with $2000.

Apart from main 42-km race, participants will be treated to other events such as the fun run and wellness initiatives aimed at promoting healthier living amongst Zimbabweans

As the 42-km Old Mutual marathon acts as a qualifying marathon for two of South Africa’s biggest long distance races- namely the Old Mutual Two Oceans 56km and the Comrades Marathon- organizers will adhere with the international standards during the race.

This in addition to welcoming some of the country’s top long distance runners.

The race will adhere to strict professional standards through the use of electronic timing to ensure accurate timing for every runner as according to global standards,

Age limits have also been introduced for each race with a minimum of 18 years of age expected to take part in the headline act and the 42-km race.

In the 21.1 km race, only 16-years olds, will be eligible, while those in the 14 years category have been pegged for the 10km.

Rounding up the festivities will be the 5km where the age limit has been pegged at 12 years.

Start times for the races will be 6:00am for the 42.2 km race and 6:30am for the rest of the races.
