JOHN NYIKADZINO came back to haunt his former employers as Nichrut edged Chapungu in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash at Ascot yesterday.
James Chivasa scored the only goal of the match 15 minutes from time to ensure that coach Nyikadzino and his men collect full points from this derby confrontation. Chapungu have been struggling to hit top form, having won only two matches recently. Not even the return of Rodwell Dhlakama who was this week reinstated as the club’s technical advisor could spur the team to victory against their former coach.
But yesterday, the airmen had themselves to blame after failing to capitalise on a number of chances they created, especially in the second half. Nyikadzino was happy with the win but also showed the soft spot he has for Chapungu. “I am happy we have won the match but obviously it is painful on the other hand to see Chapungu losing. But the coaches now with Chapungu are doing a good job, there are a lot of improvements to the side and I know they will come right.
“For us this win is very welcome after having lost our last two games. Getting a result in such a derby gives the boys confidence,” he said.
