HIGH-flying Zimdancehall singer Nutty O said his triple victory at the recently held PPC Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) is a clear signal he means business.

However, the chanter — real name Carrington Simbarashe Chiwadzwa — was quick to indicate that he will not be releasing a new album this year.

His 2021 offering “Mustard Seed”, which carries the runaway hit “Handipere Power”, has been well received.

The musician together with South Africa-based Zimbabwe music producer-cum-wheel spinner Zandile “DJ Zandimaz” Mazithulela were the biggest winners at this year’s edition of ZIMA.

The duo scooped three awards apiece, while dancehall chanter Freeman bagged two gongs.

When the awards organisers released the list of nominees, Nutty O was leading with seven nominations, Freeman had five, while DJ Zandimaz was seated on four.

Nutty O’s efforts were recognised as the Best Male Artiste of the Year, Best Album (Mustard Seed) and Song of the Year (Handipere Power).

The Mbare-bred singer told The Sunday Mail Society that fans were increasingly pushing for a new album from him.

“Every day I am talking to people that want to know when I am releasing my next album.

‘‘They are expecting more good stuff from me because ‘Mustard Seed’ did very well,” he said.

“However, I am not in a hurry. My latest offering is still fresh and has the stamina to see through the year. It needs more time on the market without distraction.”

But not all hope for new stuff is lost.

Nutty O revealed he is working on some new projects that will cover the gap.

“I am going to release single tracks to complement my last album. The songs are good and will give us a competitive edge in any awards event,” said Nutty O.

“Winning accolades is a source of pride for any artiste. They motivate us to stay focused, work hard and produce quality stuff.”

He is optimistic he will scoop more awards this year.

And he hopes to continue working with both seasoned and upcoming foreign artistes.

The artiste is arguably one of the country’s top performers at moment and has the potential to reach dizzy heights should he stay focused.

“We are negotiating with many artistes from beyond our borders for collaborations.

“Some of them have already been confirmed and we will be making an official announcement in due course,” he said.
