No household will go hungry regardless of a projected below average national grain harvest forecast for the 2014/15 farming season, Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.

The VP told thousands of people at Women’s Day Commemorations in Mvuma yesterday that Government had already put in place a plan to import supplementary grain.

Preliminary findings of an ongoing crop assessment show that at least 300 000 hectares of maize were affected by prolonged dry spells and cannot be salvaged.

Government has set up committees in all 10 provinces to harness resources towards averting hunger.

“Gore rino hongu, matunhu ekuno kusouth, mvura haina kunaya zvakanaka, asi kumatunhu ari kunorth vazhinji vari kukohwa. Asi sehurumende, tinenge takavheneka nyika yose. Tavakuziva matunhu ane chikafu chishoma uye tavakuziva kuchapinda nzara,” he said.

VP Mnangagwa urged Cde Auxillia Mnangagwa – Zanu-PF’s candidate in the by-election scheduled for this Friday – to work hard and commended her for the developmental projects she has initiated in the constituency.

These projects include borehole drilling and school and clinic refurbishments.

“Zuva ranhasi ndichikusiirayi musikana uyu, Mamoyo … takafamba naye tese achinditsigira. Ndingati ini maitomuziva kudarika ini nekuti ini kazhinji ndaipiwa mabasa akawanda ndichinge ndichifamba kunze kwenyika kana kuHarare. Asi maprogrammes anga asingamire; ivo vachiita maprogrammes iwayo.”
