NEW: Zimbabwean doctor lands top post in the US

Zimbabwean born medical doctor, Dr Matifadza Hlatshwayo-Davis recently landed a post as the City of St Louis director of health in the United States of America.

Dr Hlatshwayo-Davis who holds a degree from Cleveland College and a master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University has been working on infectious diseases in the United States of America.

She begins her tenure on October 18, which sees her become the first black woman to hold the role.

“I am humbled and honored to accept this position, which affords me the opportunity to serve the city I love now at the highest level.

I am thankful for the opportunity provided to me at such an important time in our nation to step up and to serve as the director of health as we face perhaps the most challenging part of this pandemic,” she was quoted as saying by the St Louis Public Radio.

Dr Hlatshwayo- Davis becomes the latest Zimbabwean to land a top post outside the country, in what is fast becoming a regular feature in the news.
