Zimbabwe is now a mature democracy, and the country should maintain peace before, during and after the harmonised elections slated for August 23, President Mnangagwa has said.

Speaking after visiting the Nomination Court at the High Court in Harare, President Mnangagwa lauded the peaceful and incident-free nomination process.

“I came over here … to show that I submit myself to the Constitutional process.

“I have been told that my papers have gone through very well,” he said.

“So far, I have been told that the process is going on very well. Zimbabwe is now a mature democracy …

“This process is so peaceful. This is what we want; we should continue now, during the process of campaigning, during the elections and post-elections. This is the peace we want as a mature democracy.”

Some of the candidates who had submitted their nomination papers to contest for the highest office in the land include CCC leader Mr Nelson Chamisa, National Constitutional Assembly party leader Professor Lovemore Madhuku, independent aspiring candidate Mr Saviour Kasukuwere, Coalition for Democrats leader Mr Trust Chikohora and MDC leader Mr Douglas Mwonzora and Ms Linda Masarira of LEAD.

The nomination process is scheduled to close at 4 pm.
