ZANU PF and teachers share a long and strong relationship that dates back to the liberation struggle, as most of the country’s founding fathers emerged from the profession, President Mnangagwa has said.

Speaking at the launch of Teachers for Economic Development on Wednesday afternoon, the President said the two parties must therefore not allow ephemeral differences to separate them.

“This symbiotic relationship dates back to the days of the liberation struggle, with some of our country’s founding fathers having emerged out of the education sector,” said President Mnangagwa.

“We must never again allow any challenges or differences we may face as a people to separate these two institutions.”

The education sector, he said, is a strategic cog in the country’s modernisation and industrialisation agenda.

“It is the solid foundation upon which we must successfully implement and achieve our multi-pronged nation-building strategies,” he said.

“Hence, through formal and informal education, the nation depends on our teaching fraternity to promote and pass on our culture, values, ethos and traditions as the people of Zimbabwe.

“Additionally, patriotic, committed, focused and loyal members of the education sector must be the drivers which enable both current and future generations to acquire relevant knowledge, skills and the requisite positive mindset to purposefully build, modernise, industrialise and develop our God-given country.”

The President said it was through teachers that the country is now witnessing various innovations in science and technology.
