YOUTHS in the construction and engineering sectors have taken heed of President Mnangagwa’s call for them to be actively involved in the development of the country through the implementation of programmes under the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS).

In recent months, the youths under the aegis of the Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA) have been organising themselves and taking active roles in implementing NDS1 strategies.

NDS1 is a national development programme with 14 milestones in order to achieve Vision 2030.

ZBCA member in charge of the youth desk, Engineer Gerald Gwabvira, told The Sunday Mail that youths in the construction and engineering sectors are taking heed of calls for them to contribute to NDS1 goals by claiming their stake in Government tenders.

“President Mnangagwa called upon the youths to contribute to the development of the country through implementing NDS1 strategies. I am happy to say that there has been a positive response to this call.

“Last week alone, we had more than 50 youths that formalised their documentation and are now on board, ready to contribute meaningfully to the development of this country,” Engineer Gwabvira said.

Through engagement with relevant authorities, the youths are appealing for Government to award them tenders for the construction of roads, housing units, energy projects, irrigation and dams among others.

The ZBCA youth desk incorporates brick moulders, carpenters, pavers, suppliers of construction equipment, contractors and engineers that are under the age of 40.

Forty-eight youths that are affiliated with the ZBCA are owners of construction and engineering companies.
