YOUTHS under the auspices of the Zimbabwe Young Contractors Association (ZYCA) have implored Government and local authorities to work with young contractors, as the country moves towards becoming a green economy.

A green economy is one that ensures sustainable development, without degrading the environment.

ZYCA national chairperson Engineer Gerald Gwabvira told The Sunday Mail Online that youths in construction and engineering were ready to work with Government and local authorities.

“As young contractors, we are ready to engage and work with Government and local authorities in efforts to attain a green economy.

“I urge all local authorities to start thinking about going green,” Engineer Gwabvira said.

He hailed Government, through the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Praz), for introducing the electronic government (e-government) procurement system.

The procurement system enhances the State procurement process, as well as plugging loopholes and eliminates corruption.

“The introduction of the e-government procurement system is one of the best things that has ever happened in public procurement. Apart from eliminating corruption, this system gives updates on what will be transpiring in the public procurement world,” he said.

The ZYCA, which has a membership of 73, incorporates brick moulders, carpenters, pavers, suppliers of construction equipment, contractors and engineers that are under the age of 35.

Some of the members are owners of construction and engineering companies.
