NEW: ‘Yohane wouldn’t hurt a fly’

The Sunday Mail

MORE messages of condolences continued to pour in Friday for slain former Bidvest Wits and Zimbabwe Warriors star Charles Yohane.

The former Warriors left back was reported to have been a victim of a hijacking that resulted in his unfortunate death.

Yohane’s former teammates Peter Gordon and Manqoba Ngwenya shared their devastation at hearing of his tragic passing.

“It’s very sad as he was such a gentleman,” Gordon told KickOff.

“It’s such a horrible thing to happen to such a nice guy, as he wouldn’t hurt a fly.

“We played together towards the end of my career and he was a very good player, and well-liked by the rest of the team. That’s why he carried on for a while after I had left.

“It just goes to show you, that life is short.
“I wish they could have just taken the car, I feel sorry for his friends, family, it’s not nice.”

Ngwenya says Yohane was one of those who gave him a warm welcome when he started his football career at Wits.

“Eish, it’s sad. He was one of the most humble of guys and very sweet.

“I will never forget his smile, he was never angry, a very soft guy.

“These people should have just taken the car and not have killed him.

“Upon hearing the news I lost my cool a bit you know, even if you fought him he wouldn’t fight back, he was very calm.

“I saw him recently, we were playing together in the masters’ games, and we were playing together at All-Stars. It’s sad what is happening in our country.

“He was one of the people that welcomed me at Wits because I was a youngster coming from the Wits Colts Under – 19.

“He later captained me in the first team. So I’ve got fond memories of him. He was always happy, laughing and never fought anyone.
“Let’s hope the culprits are found.” – Kickoff.com
