THE Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has urged local tourism players and property developers to spruce up their facilities and build world-class structures to attract visitors.
ZTA head of corporate affairs Mr Godfrey Koti told The Sunday Mail Online that they acknowledged the strides being made in improving the quality of tourism products in the country.
He, however, reckons more still needs to be done.
“Yes, we are moving in the right direction with regards to improving our tourism products. However, I urge developers with capacity to build more new structures to do so,” he said.
“I am sure everyone is aware of the developments that are taking place in Victoria Falls and even here (Harare), and many other places.
“If we have more people focusing on such projects, then Destination Zimbabwe will effectively compete on the global tourism market.”
Attractive infrastructure, he said, is an advantage in selling a destination.
Mr Koti urged relevant stakeholders to take a cue from South Africa.
“A new shopping mall, Oceans Mall, was opened this week in Durban and already people are travelling from different parts of the country to tour the place. The world-class mall is also attracting international visitors.”
The Oceans Mall in Umhlanga opened its doors to the public in Durban, South Africa, on Tuesday.
