SIXTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD Susan Sibanda has appeared in court facing charges of defrauding land seekers of US$21 000.
She allegedly sold non-existent pieces of land in Banket to the home-seekers while claiming to have been authorised by ZANU PF and war veterans.
Sibanda (64) appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with fraud.
She was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to Friday for bail application.
The court heard that Sibanda, working in cahoots with her accomplices, who are still at large, misrepresented to home-seekers that she was representing the ruling party in selling pieces of land.
She allegedly claimed that one Sarudzai Washaya, who also claimed to be a member of the war veterans task force in Banket, was also behind the project.
Sibanda then lured ZANU PF members to join the project after paying a US$25 fee.
According to the State, Sibanda was found in possession of a register with names of her intended beneficiaries upon arrest on February 9.
