Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) have confirmed that the scheduled match between the West Indies and Nepal will proceed as scheduled, as the fire that broke out during the late hours of Tuesday evening caused minimal damage to a section of the venue at Harare Sports Club.

“Zimbabwe Cricket can confirm a fire occurred at Harare Sports Club behind the south-west grandstand at the venue last night.

“A prompt response from the City of Harare Fire Brigade ensured the flames were quickly doused, and there was no damage caused to any of the structures on the ground,” said ZC in a statement.

“Tomorrow’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 fixture at Harare Sports Club will not be affected and will proceed as scheduled.”

West Indies and Nepal, who are tied on two points, are currently second and third, respectively, in Pool A of the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.

The Calypso boys have, however, played a game less, while Nepal managed to bounce back from their opening defeat to the Chevrons when they trounced the United States of America by six wickets on Tuesday.

Dave Houghton and his boys are likely to keep a keen eye on that match as they play West Indies on Saturday.

The Chevrons currently lead their group with four points after convincing wins over Nepal and the Netherlands.

The Dutch and the USA remain the two teams yet to register a point in the group.
