NEW: Tobacco sales rake in US$125 095 on first day

Tobacco sales raked in US$125 095 on the first day of the marketing season yesterday, compared to US$243 503 recorded last year.

According to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), about 48 938 kg of tobacco were sold at an average price of US$2,56 per kg.

About 578 out of 628 tobacco bales were sold, representing a decline from the 1 179 bales that were sold on the same day last year.

Tobacco Sales Floor (TSF) took delivery of 35 075 kg of tobacco, while Premier Tobacco Auction Floors received 13 863 kg.

The highest price achieved was US$4,66 per kg, while the lowest price was $1,40 per kg.
