AS the Muslim community observed the end of the 2021 holy month of Ramadan, learners at CLC Group of Schools in Belvedere, Harare, decided to being cheer to orphans at St Joseph’s House for Boys when they donating an assortment of goods, foodstuffs, school uniforms and educational material.
Ramadan began on April 12 and ended on Wednesday.
And the CLC learners, through their Outreach Club, sourced the donated material from various local companies.
CLC Outreach Club head girl Sunaira Shariff and her deputy Maahirah Mussa said they wanted to make a different in the lives of those at the orphanage.
“As we were searching for possible ventures this year, we stumbled upon St Joseph’s House for Boys in particular as we feel that we should start with those that are close to us before going on to serve the community at large, as charity does begin at home after all,” said Shariff.
“As a Muslim school, we are guided by Islamic morals and ethics, an important aspect of our religion being that ‘the best charity is that given in the holy month of Ramadan’, and so we decided that this was the perfect time to help our community so that both givers and receivers could benefit from the outcome of this project.”
St Joseph’s House for Boys board chairperson Everisto Mutikwa appealed for more corporates to chip in and assist the institution, which currently cares for 50 boys.
“Our challenges have got to do with the daily operations of the home, especially on things that need cash. Donations in cash have been scarce and even some donations in kind have also been scarce, and today we are here at CLC because of the generosity that they have done in these trying times.”
