IT is often said leaders are born and not made.

A leader is one who knows the way, walks on it and shows it to others.

Leadership does not start at the climax of a career or life.

Rather, it begins amid peers, at home, in school, et cetera.

This year, at least 42 learners have been carefully selected to help superintend over other learners. They are supposed to enforce rules and regulations, and maintain order within the school.

The prefects were inaugurated on February 27.

Tinotenda Ngwarati is the head boy, while Brian Nyagaya is his deputy.

Chiedza Mungofa is the head girl, and her deputy is Nokutenda Danga.

Faith Murahwa is the senior prefect, while Wayne Mtemeri and Nokutenda Majere are sports captain and prefect, respectively.

The swearing-in event kicked off with a few words of advice from the school reverend. A few parents shared words of encouragement to the newly elected team.

Our deputy headmistress, Miss Perseverance Chifamba, handed over badges to the prefects, while the headmaster, Mr Elevate Mukanhairi, urged the new learners’ leaders to discharge their duties with confidence and fairness.

Other learners in the school were encouraged to respect their colleagues who have been tasked with leadership roles. For the first time in the history of Bradford Private High School, we have a Form Four learner as our vice head girl.

The head girl and head boy delivered their acceptance speeches during the inauguration.

Nokutenda Majere is an Upper Sixth learner at Bradford Private High School. Learners can write short poems/stories or about special events at their schools and send to: prince.mushawevato@ zimpapers.co.zw
