EXAMINATION periods are never easy for students.

This time requires everyone to put more effort in their studies.

With the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council exams only a month away, some schools have started relieving candidates of pressure. This particularly applies to those who also serve as prefects.

This has been the case at Mufakose 2 High School, where prefects set to sit O-Level and A-Level exams have been partially relieved of their duties.

The move is expected to give them more time to concentrate on their studies.

Most of the students were struggling to balance between their schoolwork and prefects’ duties, namely, leading fellow learners.

According to the senior master, Mr Linos Zimbizi, 28 new prefects have been appointed in an acting capacity until their senior colleagues finish school.

Judith Taga, one of the candidates, welcomed the move, saying it had created more time for her.

She said the duties were exciting but tiresome.

The acting prefects have their work cut out for them. They have a lot to prove and achieve.

The good thing is they still have the senior students around to show them the ropes.

Wendy Magwaro, an incoming prefect, feels the duties are “tough but manageable”.

Their work will be easier should they quickly get used to their new roles and earn respect.
