ZIMBABWE Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General Godwin Matanga has called for police commanders at provincial, district and station levels to ensure that their officers minimise delays at roadblocks and checkpoints across the country.

This comes as more sectors of the economy have opened up following President Mnangagwa’s recent adjustments of the country’s Covid-19 regulations to level two lockdown.

In a statement on Thursday, the Commissioner General said commanders should ensure that there are minimal delays by officers on the ground at public roadblocks and checkpoints in their jurisdictions.

“Motorists should also avoid causing traffic congestion, driving against the flow of traffic proceeding against red robots and exhibiting reckless conduct,” reads part of the statement.

“The police will ensure the law takes its course against such drivers…let us be responsible citizens and collectively assist in maintenance of law and order as the country fights the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Business operators have also been warned to cooperate with the police by strictly observing operational hours.
