POLICE have arrested over 30 000 motorists across the country under the operation codenamed “Tame the Traffic Jungle”.
The blitz is meant to restore order on the country’s roads.
In a statement on Thursday, police said: “The ZRP reports that a total of 30 469 arrests have been effected during the ongoing operation. Nine hundred and five arrests have been made on vehicles without route permits, while 11 253 arrests have been made on illegal pirate taxis (mushikashika). Three hundred and thirty-two motorists have been taken in for reckless driving, while 2 027 people have been arrested for touting.”
Police also said 812 vehicles have been impounded for moving on the roads without registration plates.
