Global women and girl child empowerment organisation, Sister Accord Foundation, has begun work in Zimbabwe with disbursements of grants for women start-ups a few months after launching its Zimbabwe Chapter.

The foundation’s mission is to help girls and women realise their full potential, and impact their families and communities.

Last week, the foundation disbursed the first batch of grants to women in Harare who are engaged in various economic projects ranging from value addition, confectionery and poultry business.

The beneficiaries include Tinotenda Alice Chinake for her cake making project; Marvellous Chiwawa (peanut butter making); Keretia Chikowe (recreational park); Patronella Mubaiwa (poultry); Nomsa Rwodzi (sugar beans farming), and Angeline Sithole (sausage making).

Sister Accord Foundation’s USA-based founder, Ms Sonia Jackson Myles, said:

“The Sister Accord Foundation’s mission is to help girls and women tap into their gifts and power, so that they can make a positive difference in their lives, their families’ lives and their lives of people in their communities.

“The business grants and scholarship that we awarded are the seeds that will have a significant ripple effect throughout the country.

“I’m so excited about our partnership with the TPM Foundation, and how we will serve girls and women in the country and throughout the continent as we look to have one billion girls and women live their best lives.”

Sister Accord Zimbabwe Chapter Ambassador – who is also the founder of Thabani Patience Manjenjenje Foundation Trust (TPMF) – Ms Thabani Gambiza, represented Ms Myles in handing over the grants.

The Zimbabwe Chapter is the first in Africa for the Sister Accord Foundation, an organisation that was started in 2013.

Membership to the organisation cuts across sectors, backgrounds, education, race or religion.
