Old Mutual Zimbabwe has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a youth-led initiative, Local Works Zimbabwe Youth Programme (LWZYP), in a move aimed to economically empower youth.

Old Mutual Zimbabwe chief executive officer Mr Samuel Matsekete explained the need for public-private partnerships (PPPs) and collaborative action towards youth empowerment.

“The mutual partnership is centralised on improving youth programmes and as Old Mutual in collaboration with USAID intends to reach thousands of youths.”

Mr Matsekete was speaking at a virtual LWZYP ‘Youth Stakeholders’ Meeting’, which provided a platform for stakeholders working with young people to listen, learn and share experiences.

The stakeholders’ meeting also marked the conclusion of USAID Zimbabwe’s 2021 Youth Month commemorations.

USAID Zimbabwe mission director Mr Art Brown backed the initiative.

“Now, more than ever, stakeholders who are empowering young people need to work together, build consensus, pool efforts and resources and put youth in the driver’s seat,” he said.

Last year, during the launch of the LWZYP, USAID Zimbabwe committed to facilitate the creation of a collaborative network of local actors, promote multi-stakeholder dialogue, generate cross-sectorial partnerships and discover locally owned, sustainable collaborative solutions.

LWZYP engages youth from all sectors together with their peers, families and communities for better development outcomes.
