FOOD distribution under the Government’s Food Deficit Mitigation Programme should not be based on political affiliation but on vulnerability.

The call was made by Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister July Moyo at Nkenyane Shopping Complex in Bubi district, during his programme familiarisation tour in Matabeleland North province.

Said Minister Moyo:

“As has and still is the position of the President, no one is supposed to die or suffer from hunger.

“I am reiterating this today, no political affiliation is going to be followed during this grain distribution.

“The malnourished children and those headed by people with disabilities, orphans, women, the elderly, children or chronically ill people are our priority groups.”

He said traditional structures must play a crucial role in the distribution process.

“I am urging village assemblies to collect data of their members who are in dire need of food to ensure that all members are on the common standing,” said the Minister.

“Chiefs, headmen and village heads must play a leading role in this process and not the political parties because our Government is there to serve the people.”

A total of 241 beneficiaries from two villages – Nkenyane and Glenupi – received 10 000 tonnes of maize grain.
