MOTORISTS have been urged to desist from abusing the recently-availed facility that will make it possible for fuel to be sold in local currency at selected service stations.

Government recently availed a US$15 million facility that pays for the importation of fuel, which will be sold in local currency by some service stations.

Currently, most fuel in the country is being sold in foreign currency.

There are concerns, however, that the new facility could be abused by unscrupulous individuals.

Said Drivers Association of Zimbabwe president, Mr Nicholas Mabwe:

“The unveiling of this facility means that motorists are going to access cheaper fuel during the festive season.

“I would, however, want to urge Zimbabweans not to abuse this facility.”

In the past, some motorists, who were allegedly conspiring with corrupt fuel attendants, were allegedly hoarding fuel for resale on the black market.
