FORMER Chevrons vice-captain, Peter Joseph Moor is set to wait a bit longer before he makes his debut appearance for Ireland.
This comes after the 31-year-old was once again omitted from the Ireland squad, which is expected to play Zimbabwe in six limited overs matches early next year.
The batter and wicketkeeper, who holds an Irish passport, has been tipped for a place in the Irish team for a while now following his decision to feature for Ireland in 2021.
Despite being in the long-term plans for the Irish national team, Moor was left out from the squad that will play Zimbabwe in three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals in January.
Cricket Ireland national selector, Andrew White has described the upcoming tour against Zimbabwe as an important tour on their calendar.
“Ireland versus Zimbabwe is always a competitive tussle, and with both sides coming off the back of good performances at the recent T20 World Cup, we expect no difference in this series.
“2023 will be the year when we return to playing all three formats. However, with a T20 World Cup Qualifier in July, and a possible 50-over Cricket World Cup in October – if we can qualify – the importance of this white-ball series is obvious,” said White.
“The volume of cricket next year demands that we will need a broader pool of ‘international-ready’ players to meet the challenges ahead, and the Zimbabwe tour will be the start of that process.”
The series will start off with the T20I matches penciled in for January 12, 14 and 15, and these will be followed by the ODI fixtures set for January 18, 20 and 22.
The two sides recently met at the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where Zimbabwe secured a 31-run win in Hobart.
