A HARARE man will rue the day he poured acid on his wife’s face and body during a domestic dispute after the courts recently sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Thirty-three-year-old Tatenda Pasipamire, who resides at Block 16, Flat 58, Odzi Flats, Eastlea, Harare, faced attempted murder charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Ignition Mhene.

Prosecutor Mr Shepherd Makonde said on March 23, at around 7pm, the complainant arrived home from Rotten Row Magistrates Court where she had filed a case of domestic violence against her husband.

“The accused person was ordered to come the following day for judgment by the magistrate, and on the very night, he started shouting at the complainant, saying ‘Hapana anogara pano kana ini ndisingagare pano’, because he thought that he was going to be imprisoned,” said Mr Makonde.

It is alleged the accused person was shouting while holding a white container.

He then suddenly poured acid on the complainant’s head, face and chest, and immediately her braids started falling off.

She also developed blisters on her face and chest.

She was immediately rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for treatment.

Her daughter made a police report the following morning, leading to Pasipamire’s arrest.

He was subsequently sentenced to 10 years in prison, of which three years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
