Willard Katsande’s contract with Kaizer Chiefs will expire in six days but the veteran midfielder remains calm as he focuses on the upcoming CAF Champions League semi-final second leg fixture against Wydad Casablanca.

Amakhosi have one foot into the final after winning 1-0 away in the reverse fixture.

The 35-year-old Katsande featured in that match amid speculation about his future as there are calls for the club to get rid of veteran players ahead of next season.

The former Zimbabwe captain has been on the books of Kaizer Chiefs for a decade now, but it appears his days at South Africa’s glamour club are numbered.

However, the arrival of new coach Stuart Baxter – the man who turned Katsande into a gritty defensive midfielder during his first stint at Chiefs – could save the former Ajax Cape Town star.

But Katsande is not worried about his future and remains focused on Kaizer Chiefs’ watershed game against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.

Should Chiefs win or draw, they will book their first ever final berth in CAF Champions League.

Katsande told The South African – an online news platform – that winning the coveted trophy was bigger than his contractual issues.

Chiefs are 90 minutes away from reaching a historic final and they could get the job done this weekend.

They welcome Wydad Casablanca at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is 6pm.
