GOVERNMENT should introduce Electric Vehicle (EV) courses in the higher and tertiary education sector to expand knowledge of this industry, an expert has said.

Presenting a report at the E-Mobility Congress that was held virtually today, ZimToque founder and EVs expert, Mr Tanaka Kutama, said introducing EV courses in tertiary institutions will improve uptake of the vehicles in the country.

“In every introduction of a new revolution, education and awareness are key. Setting up new courses in universities specifically for this industry may help in the early adoption of EV.

“Zimbabwe is currently working on an EV framework policy, which is going to introduce EV engineering in its curriculum. This will help in the training of first responders, technicians, safety and EV charger attendants,” he said.

Mr Kutama said that plans to launch an EV technical school were on course.

“Zimbabwe is set to launch a technical school led by master technician, Mr Taurayi Sewera, who has identified all the credentials in high voltage systems.”
