INDUSTRY should produce goods and services that meet international standards and are competitive on the global market, Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Sithembiso Nyoni has said.
Last week, Zimbabwe joined the world in celebrating World Standards Day, which is held on October 14 each year.
The commemorations ran under the theme “Vision for Better World – Focusing on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3)”.
In a speech read on her behalf by Engineer Macheka Muchumairi, Dr Nyoni said:
“As we work hard to implement the National Development Strategy 1, it is imperative that our country produces goods that meet international standards to make them competitive on the global markets.
“My ministry values the importance of standards for the socio-economic development of our country and is committed to continuously support the standardisation work and promote the use of standards through strong quality infrastructure.”
Government has since come up with a National Quality Policy, which is now operational, and its supportive framework will function in conjunction with the Standards Association of Zimbabwe.
