LISTED sugarcane producer Hippo Valley Estates Limited says its export volumes into the region increased in the six months to September 2022 on the back of increased demand in Kenya
Kenya – East Africa’s biggest economy – relaxed its sugar import ban during the period under review as it sought to cover a shortfall.
This prompted imports from Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa), to which Zimbabwe is a member.
Consequently, Hippo Valley exports to Kenya increased to 8 113 tonnes from 5 875 tonnes in 2021.
Overall, the company’s total sugar industry export sales for the period improved to 35 265 tonnes, which was a 19,3 percent growth from 29 558 tonnes in the prior comparable period.
