Half-marathon champion Moses Tarakinyu expects to bring his rich vein of form at the inaugural Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) Commander’s Charity Marathon at Falcon Gold Club in Harare on Saturday.

Tarakinyu won the Econet 21-km race in Victoria Falls last weekend.

His triumph came a week after his victory at the Tanganda Half Marathon in Mutare.

He is also the reigning Musabvunda Sports and Fitness Festival Half Marathon champion, which he won in May.

The newly launched AFZ Commander’s Charity Marathon is being organised by AFZ in conjunction with fitness brand Musabvunda.

Also expected at the event is marathon’s woman of the moment Olivia Chitate, who won the Tanganda Half Marathon in June, as well as Blessing Waison, Elijah Mabhunu and Jonathan Chinyoka.

Waison came home first in last weekend’s Econet 42-km race, ahead of Mabhunu and Lionel Muchena, with Chinyoka finishing a distant seventh.

“The preparations are going on very well,” said Kudzai Pasipanodya of Musabvunda Fitness.

“A lot of athletes are coming to participate. We are closing the registration on Thursday, and we have a lot of entertainment lined-up for the day.

“Baba Harare, Apama and the Air Force of Zimbabwe band will be performing there. So, it’s going to be a fun-filled day.”

Other top names expected at the race are Fortunate Chidziva and Prosper Mutwira.

Non-professional runners will also compete in various races.
