Harare City Council (HCC) says it is in the process of transitioning from the antiquated way of collecting garbage to more modern models, in line with the city’s world class city status by 2030.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, HCC public relations officer, Mr Innocent Ruwende, said:
“We are transitioning to an integrated waste management system. The plan is almost finished; we are only waiting for the council to approve.
“For the transitioning to be successful we are expecting 10 more vehicles in the next quarter and more as the year progresses. Five tippers, one frontend loader are also expected in the first quarter of 2022, which will help us clear illegal dumps.”
He also said there was need to establish more recapitalisation material recovery centers, so as to minimise the waste that goes to illegal dumps.
